When Roanoke Rapids High students return to school Wednesday starting their second semester, they will have a new Athletic Director.

Due to additional duties at the RRGSD Central Office, RRHS Athletic Director (AD) Tom Davis has been assigned full time at Central office. Roanoke Rapids head football coach and Assistant Athletic Director Eric McDaniels has been named the new RRHS Athletic Director (AD) effective January 20th.

McDaniel who came to Roanoke Rapids High as the new football coach back in August of 2014 has close to fifteen years of experience as an Athletic Director. McDaniels started his teaching and coaching career in 1985 at Murfreesboro HS as Head Football Coach and AD ( 85-87).  McDaniels then went to Elizabeth City to Northeastern High School in 1988  (1 year as an Asst Coach ), Head Football until 2005. Coach McDaniels became the A D  in the early "90s  until 2004.

Back then Northeastern was a member of the old Big East Conference and at the time had over 1800 students .  Conference members included Greenville Rose, Rocky Mt ,  Northern Nash , Bertie , New Bern , D H Conley.
