The Roanoke Rapids Yellow Jackets basketball teams hosted the Southern Vance Raiders Wednesday night at the HIVE for a 2A Northern Carolina conference match-up.
Roanoke Rapids Lady Jackets win 63-29 over Southern Vance.
Roanoke Rapids leading scorers were: Anna Vann with 14 points, Haley Farrow with 10 points, Alizae Neville with 10 points, Camden Bierbauer with 2 points, Michelle Stewart with 6 points, Erica Whitmire with 6 points, Taylor Medlin with 7 points, Brooke McClenny with 6 points, Jordan Carpenter with 2 points.
Post game comments from head coach Jim Whitmire, "What a week for the Lady Jackets. It started with a big win in Durham and followed by a bigger win here tonight. This game was exactly what we needed going into the teeth of conference play. We started strong and never looked back. Every player on the roster contributed tonight. Anytime you can put 63 points on the board, it usually turns out good. This team is growing and peaking at the absolute right time. We go to S Granville to avenge a loss earlier in the season this Friday night. Our goal for this week was to be 3-0 and that has a chance to happen. We sit tied for second place in the conference and playing with a lot of confidence."
Roanoke Rapids Varsity boys fell 66-71 to Southern Vance.
Roanoke Rapids leading scorers were: Tyjarek Simmons with 22 points and Semaj Smith with 21 points.
Post game comments from head coach Tyler Snyder, "We struggled from the free throw line and they didn't. We are still in the middle of the conference with 5 conference games left, so we can still finish towards the top."
