The Roanoke Rapids Lady Yellow Jackets opened their 2016 season at home and with a conference win Friday night.
On a brisk Friday night at RRHS field, the Jackets shutout the Eagles only allowing two hits in the 14-0 win in five innings.
Sierra Hearp was on fire on the mound for the Jackets only allowing no runs off only 2 hits. one walk and 10 strike-outs to earn her first win of the season in five innings.
The Jackets at the plate scored 14 runs off of 11 hits. Brooke McCleany had the hot bat of the night going 3-4 scoring 2 runs with 6 RBI's on a single, double and over Center field homerun, Hunter Martin and Dakota Etheridge had two singles with a RBI each, Michelle Stewart and Kimmie Etheridge had a double each, Abbi Carpenter and Breanna Allen had a single each.
Head coach Steve Milligan post game comments, "Just really pleased with our first win. I thought the girls demonstrated the fundamentals we have worked on in practice. Proud of their offensive and defensive play. Lots of good softball played tonight."
