The Roanoke Rapids Varsity Baseball team opened up their Ray Avery Easter Tournament at Ayden-Grifton High School with a 4-3 win over Pamlico County Saturday.

Logan Jackson started on the mound for the Yellow Jackets and picked up the win by pitching five innings. He gave up one run while striking out seven batters. Tyler Shearin earned the save by pitching the final two innings. Shearin gave up two runs while striking out two batters.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Hunter Connell led off with a single. He advanced to third base and stole home to tie the score 1-1.

In the bottom of the second inning Nick Horvath led off with a single and scored on a single by Logan Jackson. Tyler Liverman, running for Jackson, score on a sacrifice fly by Hunter Connell. The two runs gave the Jackets a 3-1 lead.

In the bottom of the third inning, Dylan Allen hit a blast over the leftfield fence for a homerun to give the Jackets a 4-1 lead.

That run would prove to be the game winner as Pamlico County scored two in the top of the seventh inning to reach the final score of 4-3.

Post game comments by head coach Mark Snead, "This was a good win for our team. We had strong pitching and solid defense once again. We are really getting it done on that side of the ball right now. We just need to string together a few more hits to really put it all together. We are not striking out very much, but we just keep hitting the ball right at them. As I told the guys, you keep doing that and the hits will come. I am proud of our team tonight."

The Yellow Jackets improve to 7-2 overall on the season with the win. RRHS will return to Ayden-Grifton on Monday to face East Carteret.  Game time is set for 4:30 pm.
