The #19 seed Roanoke Rapids Lady Yellow Jackets softball team started off with a long ball Tuesday night in the 1st round of the NCHSAA 2A State Championship play-off against #14 seed Edenton Holes 15-7.
Roanoke Rapids lead off batter Brooke McClenny started the game with a over the left filed fence homerun and later had a double. Jordan Carpenter also had a hot bat for this game with two singles, double and one RBI. Dakota Etheridge has two singles with three RBI's. Breanna Allen had two singles while Abbi Carpenter had a single with one RBI and Hunter Martin had a single with two RBI's. Giving Roanoke Rapids 11 hits for the game and leaving 9 runners on base.
Sierra Hearp started the game pitching 3 and 1/3 innings with three strike-outs and five walks with two hit batters.. Hunter Martin came in for relief pitching 3 and 2/3 innings with four strike-outs and no walks.
Post game comments from head coach Steve Milligan, "So proud of the girls, we hit and played steady defense all game. Sierra started as our pitcher and got out of a bases loaded inning and Hunter Martin came in as relief pitcher and did a fine job."
