The Roanoke Rapids Yellow Jackets Soccer team now have seats at practice field.
Thanks to several Jacket players parents and the Roanoke Valley community coming together, now the Jackets soccer players will not have to sit on the ground during water breaks or coach speeches.
The Roanoke Rapids men's Fall and Women's Spring team uses the open practice field just behind Belmont Elementary off tenth street but there were no benches for the players. Head coach Craig Jean has seen the need for years and soccer parent Tammy Perkinson for asking for help and Randy Wrenn of RRspin.com Sports stepping up along with soccer parent Mike Williams to team up and get the job done. Tuesday afternoon the first of two 10 foot benches were placed on the sidelines at the practice field.
Head coach Crag Jean stated, "The fact that we needed something done and I didn't have to take time away from all my coaching duties to get it done, speaks volumes. Any time the parents and community support your program in a positive way, it helps make my job easier and the overall atmosphere surrounding the team is improved from it. The parents and friends are supporting the kids at the games and it helps motivate them. You need a positive atmosphere to be successful. I have been lucky to have great parents behind my teams since I have been a part of RRHS soccer. I want to give a huge thank you to Tammy Perkinson for getting this project going, as well as Randy Wrenn and RRSPIN sports for providing the materials and Mike Williams for building the benches."
