Dylan Moore Days is set for this weekend and begins Friday evening at the Halifax County 4-H Horse Complex on Dog Pound Road.
Friday evening is designated for camping on your own while the bulk of the activities will be held on Saturday and Sunday.
The weekend is set aside to honor Dylan’s life and an opportunity to help other families in need.
Dylan was a 7-year-old boy who was battling a rare blood disease known as Fanconi Anemia. On July 26, 2009, he lost his life.
“To recognize the courage that this young man displayed, the city of Roanoke Rapids proclaimed September 18 as Dylan Moore Day,” organizers said. “This day is an opportunity for the community to come together in an effort to never let the memory of young Dylan fade from our thoughts.”
The celebration is also one of paying it forward to raise funds for other families going through a medical crisis.
Since 2010, the event has raised over $265,400 for local families going through a medical crisis. “This would not be possible without all of the volunteers, donors, and sponsors. Thank each and every one of you that helps make this event a huge success each year, rain or shine.”
