A 31-year-old man was reported to be in stable condition after he was shot this morning in the 100 block of Washington Avenue.
Weldon police Chief Christopher Davis said the identity of the man, who was shot in the face and near the collarbone, is currently being withheld as the investigation continues.
Officers received a call shortly after 8 a.m. that a person had been shot near the police station.
Davis and Corporal A. Dickens arrived and found the victim, who was initially transported to ECU Health North in Roanoke Rapids and then airlifted to another medical facility for further treatment.
More information will be released as the investigation continues, Davis said.
