The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to interim Chief Bobby Martin:

On Tuesday at approximately 11:25 p.m., Sergeant Mike Moseley was patrolling in the area of Old Farm and Rollingwood roads when he met another vehicle traveling in the same lane.

Moseley maneuvered his vehicle out of the way as the vehicle jerked back into the other lane. Moseley turned around and attempted to stop the vehicle which continued to swerve in its lane of travel.

The driver eventually stopped near Old Farm Apartments. Upon further investigation Moseley could detect the strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver and located an open container of beer in the vehicle.

The driver was identified as Hugo Bamaca, 31, from the Roanoke Rapids area.

He was arrested for suspicion of driving while impaired. He was transported to the magistrate and charged with DWI, no operator’s license, driving left of center, and open container.

He has a June 7 court date and was released into the care of a responsible person.
