A Roanoke Rapids man was treated for his injuries and then jailed following a chase which ended when he a struck a tree Sunday morning.
Richard Adrian Mitchell, 27, faces charges of failing to obey the move over law, careless and reckless driving, fail to stop for blue lights and siren, resisting arrest and DWI.
Major Bruce Temple of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said the chase started around 2 a.m. when Deputy Travis Clark tried to stop Mitchell on Highway 48 near Carolina Rest Home Road for speeding.
Mitchell did not stop and led Clark on a chase through neighborhoods on Carico Road and P&J Mobile Home Park.
The chase ended when Mitchell struck a tree on Graham Scott Road near Sam Powell Dairy Road.
Highway Patrol investigated the wreck. Bond and court date information was not immediately available.
