The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to interim Chief Bobby Martin:
Thursday around 9:45 p.m. Lieutenant J. Baggett was in the area of the 600 block of Vine Street when he noticed a vehicle going above the posted speed limit.
Baggett stopped the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Brandy Dickens, 32, of Roanoke Rapids.
He noticed the smell of marijuana inside the vehicle and contacted Master Officer M. Hunsucker and his dog Dubai to assist.
A search of the vehicle led to a loaded .380 pistol inside the dash and another magazine and ammunition inside the glove box.
Dickens was issued a state citation for carrying a concealed weapon and speeding.
She has a July 22 court date.
The weapon was secured and held as court evidence.
