Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said in a statement 25-year-old Joe Nathan Tabron of Roanoke Rapids was charged with felony accessory after the fact and common law obstruction of justice.

Tripp declined comment on what actions by Tabron prompted the charges.

Tripp said in the statement Tabron was arrested Friday.

Tabron is the second person to be charged in the murder of Rashad Evans.

Julius Dominic “Juju” Sledge surrendered to the sheriff’s office around 12:30 the afternoon of June 1 and was charged with murder. He awaits a September 10 court appearance.

The victim and suspect were at a birthday party when they apparently got into a dispute which led to the shooting.

The sheriff’s office received the call of the shooting shortly after 12:15 a.m. June 1.

Evans was transported for medical treatment but died from an apparent gunshot wound.

Detectives obtained warrants on Sledge for murder.

Tabron received a $25,000 bond and is awaiting a July 17 court date.

The sheriff’s office continues to investigate.
