Three people from South Carolina were arrested this morning for heroin possession after Roanoke Rapids police received a domestic disturbance call at the Interstate BP.
Officers Roy Ball and Jason Williams and Sergeant Richard White responded around 5 a.m. and found three people from Sumter, South Carolina, around a Sebring convertible.
Officers initially found marijuana and later located 163 packages of heroin stored in a bag with rice in the glove box. They found scales and also found the painkiller quanapin.
Investigation revealed that Shana Benchaley, 18, had assaulted one of the men with her, which led to the disturbance call, according to Captain Andy Jackson.
Benchaley was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver heroin, domestic assault, disorderly conduct, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of schedule I and possession of quanapin.
Daniel Anthony Hargadon, 22, was charged with maintaining a vehicle to keep a controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver heroin, possession of schedule I and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Stephen Hayden, 21, was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver heroin, possession of marijuana, possession of schedule I and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The trio was coming back from New Jersey, where it is believed they allegedly got the heroin, and were headed home, Jackson said.
