A 25-year-old Weldon man is wanted for murder in the July 11 shooting death of Moncrinique Clements, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Major Anzell Harris said the warrant for Jada Jermaine Ausby’s arrest was obtained Thursday.

The HCSO said last week that shortly after 1 a.m. on July 11, deputies and officers with the Weldon Police Department responded to reports of gunshots in the area of the Dogwood Park Apartments.

While units were en route, Halifax County Emergency Communications received a call confirming a person, identified as Clements of Weldon, had been shot and was lying on the ground.

Arriving deputies rendered immediate aid to the victim, who was initially transported to ECU Health North Hospital in Roanoke Rapids before being airlifted to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.

On July 12, investigators were notified that Clements had succumbed to his injuries.

Ausby frequents the Wilmington area as well as Grovetown, Georgia, and has been entered into criminal databases as wanted.

He has pending charges filed by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and Weldon Police Department.

The NCSHP charged him in March for speeding and driving while license revoked, while the WPD charged him in June for DWI, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of marijuana between a half-ounce to 1 ½ ounces, and driving while license revoked.
