The two men charged in the Weldon Family Dollar breaking and entering face charges in Roanoke Rapids, one of them for allegedly exchanging his mother's stolen television for five hits of crack cocaine.

Investigation by Agent John Taylor led to Kunta Kinte Shearin being charged with stealing his mother's 42-inch plasma TV and her 1989 Buick Park Avenue.

He faces charges of felony larceny, possession of stolen goods, felony larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen goods for the vehicle, obtaining property by false pretense for exchanging the TV for five hits of crack and felony possession of crack cocaine.

Reginald Tyrice Edwards, who was also charged in one of the Family Dollar breaking and entering cases in Weldon, was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver crack cocaine and receiving stolen goods for allegedly accepting the TV for the crack, according to Captain Andy Jackson.

This adds to the charges the pair already face in Weldon.

Shearin, 33, faces two counts each of breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods.

Edwards, 31, of Garysburg, faces one count each of the charges Shearin faces.

Edwards and Shearin around 4 a.m. Friday allegedly used a tire iron to break into the store and stole watches, cell phones and a DVD player.

Around 5 a.m. Shearin allegedly went back to the store and stole more of the same items, Captain James Avens first told rrspin.com Monday.

The first time the store was broken into the alarm did not go off. It did the second time.

Shearin was jailed on $50,000 bond and Edwards on $15,000 bond. They have October 12 court dates.

The arrests occurred after Roanoke Rapids Officer Roy Ball got a tip and passed the information on to Avens, Jackson said. “James managed to catch this guy. It's all about agencies exchanging information. It helps to solve multi-jurisdictional and multiple crimes.”
