Improvements to Interstate 95 from the South Carolina and Virginia state lines include a tolling component, a newly released study says.

The I-95 Corridor Planning and Finance Study says funding of the improvements by the state Department of Transportation would be in part done through tolling. 'Tolling has been identified as the most feasible financing option to fund the proposed improvements within a reasonable timeframe,' the report says. “The authority for tolling the existing interstate is being pursued by NCDOT under the provisions of the Interstate System Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Pilot Program.”

The report says the design concept used to evaluate the feasibility of financing options includes widening I-95 to six or eight lanes and also includes replacing the existing pavement and many of the existing bridges.”
