A Roanoke Rapids man who was released from jail earlier Friday was charged again on breaking and entering counts following a brief foot chase in the Western Drive area.
Lieutenant George Evans of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said around 5 p.m., Deputy B.C. Griffin responded to the West Wood Drive area of Roanoke Rapids on a breaking and entering call.
There was a report the victim was chasing the accused, later identified as Joseph Winfield Jenkins III. Griffin caught the 33-year-old man after a two-block foot chase.
Jenkins allegedly took a Carhartt coat from an unlocked vehicle.
Jenkins was charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle, possession of stolen goods, larceny and resisting a public officer.
He was arrested earlier in the day for a breaking and entering and released on bond. Detectives are investigating to determine whether Jenkins is allegedly involved in other breaking and entering cases in the area.
This time Jenkins was jailed on $12,000 bond and has an April 18 court date.
The coat was returned to the victim.
