A man charged last month for failing to register as a sex offender in Halifax County is now in federal custody, according to court records.

A federal grand jury charges that from an unknown date through at least May 3 Michael Anthony Glenn, who was supposed to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, traveled in interstate commerce knowing he was supposed to register.

An arrest warrant was requested on June 5. Today, according to court records, it was ordered that Glenn is eligible for a public defender and that he be held in federal custody until his detention hearing, which is scheduled for Monday.

Glenn was registered in South Carolina but had not registered in North Carolina.

He had been living in Roanoke Rapids for about 10 months when the Halifax County Sheriff’s Officer arrested him following investigation.
