A mother is hoping her son is OK and the Roanoke Rapids Police Department encourages him to call his family for reassurance.
Kathryn Smith said family last spoke with her son, Corey Demick, around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The family lives in the 300 block of Monroe Street and reported to police Thursday that Demick, 20, had not returned home after saying he was going to visit someone in Fairfield Apartments.
Thus far they have had no luck in finding him there or in the Highway 48 community where his father lives, Smith said. “When he left he was in a good mood. He said he was heading over to Fairfield. He didn’t have an attitude and wasn’t mad about anything. It’s just not like him.”
Smith admitted her son doesn’t hang out with the greatest crowd and he is on probation. “He’s mostly at home. We’ve contacted every single person in his cell phone. No one has seen him at all. He always keeps in contact and goes to his probation appointments. He’s been looking for a job and hasn’t been in any trouble.”
Smith said she doesn’t believe her son is in harm but she remains worried. “It’s very nerve wracking. Myself and my mother and my and son and my daughter have always been in contact. I don’t want to say he’s in harm but something is wrong because he would have called someone.”
Major Tommy Hathaway said Demick may have been involved with a girl and encourages him to call his family to let them know he is OK.
Demick was last seen wearing jeans and a T-shirt with a black zip-up hooded jacket with gold lettering. He also wore a black and gold ski hat with tassels. He is 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds. He has no tattoos or other markings. “Truthfully, he’s always around our neighborhood and if he goes anywhere he walks.”
