A Scotland Neck man who was sentenced to three years probation in December was arrested today for several breaking and entering cases that occurred February 12.

William Aaron Riddick, 19, faces two counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of larceny after breaking and entering, two counts of possession of stolen goods, a count of safecracking, a count of larceny of a firearm, a count of possession of a stolen firearm, a count of breaking and entering, two counts of injury to personal property and a count of injury to real property.

Lieutenant Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said the charges against Riddick, who has had previous run-ins with law enforcement, stem from several breaking and entering reports in the Phillips Road area of Scotland Neck.

Detectives located two high definition televisions, a rifle and an Oriental carpet taken in the crimes.

Hall said the carpet was found in a wooded area and was one of high quality. He declined further elaboration on why someone would allegedly steal a carpet.

The safecracking charge stems from Riddick allegedly breaking into a gun safe to steal a weapon, Hall said.

Riddick has been charged previously with firearm theft as well as allegedly stealing farm equipment.

Riddick was jailed today on $25,000 bond and has an April 3 court date.

Hall said Riddick was familiar with the victims in the case. Legwork by Deputy D. Coley helped solve the case, he said.
