Bare

The wife of man reported missing Monday has become even more gravely concerned about her husband’s well-being after discovering a handgun was missing from the house.

Rose Bare said the gun is similar to one police officers carry but she did not immediately know the make or model.

Mrs. Bare said she and her family have done thorough checks of major airports and airlines and no one matching her husband’s name — Edward Lee Bare — has checked in or bought tickets. There have also been no records of him renting a car under that name, she said.

Mr. Bare has family in Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee but thus far they have not heard from him or seen him.

Earlier this morning Mrs. Bare said she just wants to make sure her husband is alive and well.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m. Monday Deputy C.E. Carroll of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office responded to Bare’s residence on Easton Street off Zoo Road after his wife reported him missing.

Bare may be distracted as he was in a dispute over a building he was afraid he was going to lose, his wife said. He has suffered from depression and has been suicidal in the past, she said.

“We have checked airports and he’s not left on airplanes. We’re going to try to check trains. No one has any information,” Mrs. Bare said this morning.

Things were normal Monday, Mrs. Bare said. Around 8:30 a.m. he gave her a kiss before leaving, his wife thinking he was going off to work.

Chief Deputy Wes Tripp of the sheriff’s office said in a press release that his pickup and keys to his custom body shop business at 392 Airbase Road were left at home. Any other mode of transportation was also left behind, he said, and his destination or direction of travel is unknown.

Bare is 48 years old and stands 6 feet, 3 inches tall and weighs 180 pounds.

He has black hair that is graying, brown eyes and a medium complexion.

He was last seen wearing a gray T-shirt, beige work pants and boots. He has a tattoo of a rose on his ring finger.

Anyone with information on Bare’s location is encouraged to call the sheriff’s office at 252-583-8051, Halifax County 911 at 252-583-1991 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
