Edmonds is still at large.

A lengthy investigation into the theft of complete heating and air conditioning units has resulted in the arrest of an Enfield man and warrants for a Roanoke Rapids man.

Kirby Nello Jordan, 50, faces four counts of felony breaking and entering, nine counts of felony larceny and nine counts of felony possession of stolen goods or property.

Chief Deputy Wes Tripp of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said the nine possession counts reflect the number of units stolen and later broken down for the purpose of scrap metal sales.

The rash of thefts occurred in and around the Enfield area and represent, on the conservative side, at least $18,000 in property loss.

Tripp said Jordan allegedly had help from 43-year-old Issac Barnes Edmonds Jr. He faces the same charges as Jordan.

The pair allegedly traveled the Enfield area, looking for vacant residences, residences in which the owners were away and churches, stealing the central heating and air units and in some cases breaking into the residences, Tripp said.

Investigation, with the help of concerned citizen complaints, led to Jordan’s arrest Thursday.

Investigative work by Lieutenant Neil Aycock and deputies D. Bozard, R. Wade and M. Brown not only led to the arrests, Tripp said, but the recovery of some of the property.

Jordan was jailed on $20,000 bond and has a July 10 court date. More charges may be filed.
