The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Bobby Martin:

Friday shortly before 9:30 p.m., Officer D. Newsome was patrolling in the area of Old Farm Road when he noticed a scooter going south with an illegal rear light.

Newsome smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from both occupants after stopping the vehicle.

Newsome noticed the driver was unsteady on his feet and slurred his speech as he was asked questions. 

Newsome placed the driver under arrest for suspicion of DWI. 

The driver was identified as Robert Thompson, 29, from the Roanoke Rapids area. 

Thompson was carried before a magistrate where he was formally charged with DWI. 

He received a $2,000 bond and October 11 court date.

Master Officer M. Hunsucker assisted.

 

Friday Lieutenant J. Baggett and Officer H. Marshall responded to the area of Meadowbrook Trailer Park on a shots fired call.

While in the area to investigate, the officers heard shots ring out and made their way to the area of the sound.

The officers encountered two people standing in the roadway near a vehicle with weapons in their hands. 

The officers gave commands to drop the weapons and the people complied.

They were taken into custody and the weapons were seized. 

The vehicle the two were standing around was checked as well. 

During the check of the vehicle, ammunition for a shotgun and a .22-caliber rifle was discovered, along with marijuana, paraphernalia and other items indicating the potential selling of drugs.

Michael Brown, 23, from the Gaston area, and Lequentae Edmonds, 24, of the Roanoke Rapids area, were identified. 

Brown was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a dwelling/vehicle for controlled substance, possession of schedule VI, resist, delay and obstruct, possession of drug paraphernalia, and going armed to the terror of the people.

Brown was jailed on $5,000 bond and received an October 2 court date. 

Edmonds was charged with going armed to the terror of the people and received a $500 unsecured bond and October 10 court date.

Saturday shortly before 7:30 p.m., Newsome responded to the area of the 1300 block of Bolling Road on a breaking and entering in progress call.

Newsome located an open door to a shed.

Sergeant J. Spragins arrived to assist.

Once in the shed the officers discovered a woman slumped over on a couch with a white powdery substance coming from her nose. The substance was on her pants as well.

They noticed a straw in her right hand with residue on it.

Once the woman awakened, she was identified as Leanne Martin, 40, of the Roanoke Rapids area. 

The officers placed her under arrest and carried her before a magistrate where she was charged with possession of schedule I and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She received a $2,000 bond and October 2 court date.

 

This morning shortly before 2:30, Newsome was stationary at the old Rite Aid watching the intersection of Julian R. Allsbrook Highway and East Tenth Street when he noticed a vehicle come to the intersection. 

The driver continued to sit at the light when it turned green. 

Newsome pulled out to the light in the turning lane and when it turned green, the driver turned left and almost collided with the officer. 

Newsome noticed when the diver spoke, she had slurred speech. 

After field sobriety tests the driver was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving while impaired.

The driver was identified as Heather Phillips, 32, from the Roanoke Rapids area.

She was charged with DWI and improper left turn. 

She was released to a responsible party and given an October 11 court date.
