First Baptist Church won first place in the church float category of Sunday’s Roanoke Rapids Christmas Parade.

The city’s parks and recreation department noted in a statement professional entries were not judged. The professional float category included the grand marshal, Roanoke Rapids High School, Matthews Family Mortuary and AKA debutantes.

Calvary Baptist Church took honorable mention in the church float category.

Concrete Rose Dance Academy won first place in the Christmas float category.

Honorable mention went to Chick-fil-A, Roanoke Animal Hospital, Weldon Mills Distillery, State Employees Credit Union and Roanoke Valley Shrine Club.

Stray Cats won first place in the car and tractor category while Roanoke Valley Antique Tractor Club got honorable mention.

Gaston Fire-Rescue-EMS won first place in the fire and rescue category while Roanoke Valley Rescue received honorable mention.

Northwest High School — Northwest Collegiate and Technical Academy — won first place in the band category while Southeast — Southeast Collegiate and Prep Academy — won honorable mention.

The host bands — RRHS and Chaloner — were not judged but the department said the judges were appreciative of their participation “in promoting the holiday spirit.”
