A Broadlands, Virginia, man has been charged with operating a boat while impaired in an early morning crash on Lake Gaston.
Sergeant Carl Hatcher said investigation by North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission enforcement Officer Dustin Durham shows Joshua McKinney, 36, was driving a 2015 Yamaha Jet Drive around 2:15 this morning when he hit the rip-rap of Eaton Ferry Bridge.
Hatcher said McKinney was about 400 yards from the designated vessel passageway of the bridge at the time of the collision.
McKinney and his passenger, 31-year-old Devin Simmons, also of Broadlands, sustained facial lacerations, bumps and bruises after they were discovered in the 19-foot boat by a Warren County Sheriff's Office deputy.
They were initially transported to Halifax Regional Medical Center and then to Vidant in Greenville.
Their current condition was not immediately known.
Hatcher said information on safe boating is available on the commission's website.
