A Roanoke Rapids man returns to court on March 18 after being charged last week in a December 28 burglary and shooting.
Raymond Peterson Jr., 29, had a first appearance Wednesday, according to a statement by Chief Deputy Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
He was charged on January 10 on counts associated with the Carver Street burglary and shooting after surrendering to the sheriff’s office.
Hall said in the statement both victims sustained non-life threatening injuries.
After continued investigation by Detective R.B. Biggerstaff, warrants were drawn for Peterson’s arrest on two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, one count of first-degree burglary, two counts of conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and one count of conspiracy to commit first-degree burglary.
Hall said this afternoon another person was involved in the crime and investigation continues. He said motive remains unclear and it is not clear if Peterson was familiar with the victims.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Biggerstaff at 252-583-8201 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
