Captain Jamie Hardy of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said Tamala Avans reportedly got $20 from the victim after demanding she be taken to a bank,

Hardy said there was no evidence Avans had a weapon, hence the charge of common law robbery. A second-degree kidnapping count reflects she made the victim take her from Sheetz to the bank.

It was a case where the victim did not report the matter to police but posted the crime to social media, Hardy said in a statement this morning.

Avans was arrested Wednesday without trouble and received a $10,000 secured bond and April 1 court date.
