Roanoke Rapids police have identified an alleged suspect in a common law robbery which occurred outside Sheetz Friday.

The suspect as of yet has not been identified, although Captain Jamie Hardy said in a statement the person will be charged with common law robbery and kidnapping when warrants are obtained in the case.

Hardy noted in the statement the crime was not reported to the police department or the Halifax County 911 Center but instead was posted to social media.

The police department reached out via social media to have the victim come forward to speak with investigators.

Investigators today viewed video of the crime in an attempt to identify the reputed suspect and were successful.

It was not clear what was taken from the victim or how the kidnapping count came into play in the case.

In the statement Hardy said, “Any victim of a crime needs to report it as soon as possible to 911 so that the police department can take immediate action … Please do not wait and post the incident on social media before law enforcement agencies are notified.”
