The total of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Halifax County remains at six, as of this report, public health system Director Bruce Robistow said in an update today.

“Today we have received two negative results. We continue to monitor approximately 30 candidates,” he said. “Our active staff continue to provide essential services by appointment in the clinic and on a modified schedule at Environmental Services, WIC and Animal Control. All staff appear to be doing well.”

Robistow has also set up a daily call with Will Mahone at Vidant North, Andy Smith in Northampton County, and Margaret Brake in Warren County. “The purpose is to ensure that we monitor resources, share concerns, and plan for worst case scenarios regarding increases in positive cases.”

The health system is working closely with county Emergency Management Coordinator Buddy Wrenn to obtain vital supplies for all those providing care and for first responders. “We continue to receive donations of hand sanitizer from Weldon Mills Distillery, as well as over 100 handmade, cloth, reusable and machine washable face masks from a quilting club at the lake, all of which is disseminated to where it is needed most by Buddy Wrenn at our Emergency Operations Center.”

Said Robistow: “I would like to thank all of you for all you are doing during this pandemic. From being on the front lines of providing care and resources, to staying home and following the mitigation directives and recommendations, to spreading the word to educate anyone that you can. What a great team to be a part of.”
