Two more positive cases of the novel coronavirus have been confirmed in Halifax County, bringing the total to 60.

Health system Director Bruce Robistow said in an update today the two positive cases were confirmed Wednesday.

As of midnight Wednesday, the health system is aware of 381 tests which have been performed.

The breakdown of the 381 tests is as follows:

60 positive cases; one related death; and 30 recoveries.

There are 21 tests which remain pending and 300 negative tests.

“I can continue to report that the majority of the positive cases are spread out across the county and that there are no noted hotspots regarding the number of positive cases,” he said in the update.

Despite adding two positive cases from Wednesday, Robistow said, “Our trend remains in an overall downward direction … (The) graph also shows that following all the executive orders and CDC recommendations is effective in keeping our daily numbers low and also indicates that we need to stay the course with our efforts.”

By phone, Robistow said this afternoon some of the cases are related.

Asked about the location by municipality of the positive cases, he said, “The state is in the middle of evaluating what information can be shared by ZIP Code and whether or not they are going to make recommendations on that.”

While some county health departments are reporting locations, Robistow said those which do are doing so on their own.

He said until the state says he can release information on positive cases in municipalities larger than a population of 500, he will “continue to comply with state and federal laws regarding personal patient information.”

It is known, according to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, 17 of the county’s positive cases are inmates at Caledonia Correctional Institution in Tillery.
