Brandi Bedgood, a rising junior at Roanoke Rapids High School and member of the the district’s Health Sciences Academy, has been selected to attend the Brody Rise High School Residential Program.
Brody Rise is an outreach initiative of the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University that provides academic enrichment and healthcare exposure for students interested in health-related careers.

Brandi was one of 25 students selected for the opportunity. She will attend the residential program at East Carolina University from June 21–26, where she will participate in hands-on STEM and healthcare experiences designed to inspire and prepare future healthcare professionals.
“We are incredibly proud of Brandi for earning this opportunity,” said Health Sciences Academy Coordinator Ginger Duncan. “Her hard work, dedication, and passion for healthcare have made her an outstanding representative of our program, and we look forward to seeing all she accomplishes through this experience.”
As a group, the students in the HSA participated in a Job Shadowing experience at ECU North Hospital, where they had the opportunity to learn firsthand about careers in healthcare.
Students met with healthcare professionals and gained valuable real-world experience while exploring various aspects of the medical field. “The Health Sciences Academy extends its appreciation to Charlotte Ferguson, director of Education Residency and Student Services at ECU North Hospital, as well as the ECU North staff members who generously shared their time, knowledge, and expertise with students,” the RRGSD said. “These experiences reflect the Health Sciences Academy's commitment to providing students with meaningful exposure to healthcare careers and helping develop the next generation of healthcare professionals.”
