The Roanoke Rapids Police Department is actively investigating a shots-fired call that occurred Saturday around 6:45 p.m. in the 300 block of Madison Street.

A vehicle was struck by a stray bullet but there were no injuries.

Captain Harold Phillips said one person, Ryan Barrow, has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon. The 21-year-old Roanoke Rapids resident is currently being held in the Halifax County Detention Center on a $2,500 secured bond. He has an August 19 district court date.

Phillips said officers responded to reports of approximately six gunshots being fired in the area. Witnesses said a silver Dodge Challenger was seen leaving the scene at a high rate of speed.

He said responding officers quickly located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Third and Jackson streets. At that time, a weapon was recovered and Barrow was arrested.

The driver was detained during the investigation and later released without charges.

Phillips said detectives continue to collect evidence and follow up on investigative leads. Additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation progresses.
