The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Major Anzell Harris:

Motorcycle pursuit and arrest

A Roanoke Rapids man was arrested Thursday following a Tuesday evening motorcycle chase that ended in a crash.

The warrant charges that Cody Austin Peterson, 33, was operating a motorcycle on West Second Street with a revoked license and was speeding more than 15 miles per hour above the posted speed limit.

Harris said Community Action Team Sergeant T. Acree observed a motorcyclist on Bolling Road around 10 p.m. Tuesday. The bike matched the description of one whose operator had fled from CAT members earlier that day.

A traffic stop was initiated in the area of Franklin and West Second streets in Roanoke Rapids after a fictitious registration plate was observed. Peterson fled and subsequently crashed at the dead end of Franklin Street before fleeing the scene on foot. Deputies and officers from the Roanoke Rapids Police Department responded to assist.

Through further investigation, Acree gathered enough evidence to obtain warrants for Peterson's arrest.

On Thursday, Acree and CAT Sergeant D. Harrison arrested Peterson in Roanoke Rapids. Peterson, who has numerous pending charges, was denied bail and given a September 22 district court date.

He faces the following charges:

Felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle

Failure to heed lights and siren

Resist, delay, or obstruct a public officer

No liability insurance

Fictitious/altered title/registration card/tag

Failure to stop at a stop sign

Possession of a stolen vehicle

Stolen vehicle investigation

On Wednesday, the HCSO received a report of a 2010 Nissan Rogue stolen from a yard on Candytuft Lane in the Roanoke Rapids area.

During the follow-up investigation, Detective Sergeant M. Hasty received a call from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol Investigative Services Unit indicating that the vehicle had possibly been scrapped at a local recycling center.

The stolen vehicle was sold for scrap by Christopher Mayle of Pleasant Hill, who faces charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle and obtaining property by false pretenses.
