Halifax County commissioners today changed the date of a legislative hearing on a proposed data center moratorium to November 16 at 5:30 p.m. A location has not been confirmed.

The meeting had originally been scheduled for October 19 at 5:30 p.m. at Enfield-Inborden School on Highway 481.

Commissioner Gary Redding said he learned the October meeting date coincided with the Enfield Town Board meeting. Moving the date, he said, would allow the town board and Enfield residents to attend in November.

Commissioners stopped short of calling a special meeting on the matter and opted to cancel the October 19 meeting.

County Manager Dia Denton said that since November 16 is on the board’s regular calendar, staff would try to keep most other items that aren't time-sensitive off the agenda. She said she would also reach out to Halifax County Schools about the availability of the Enfield-Inborden facility.
