A 48-year-old local man faces multiple drug-related charges after law enforcement executed an early morning search warrant at a residence in the Rheasville community on Monday.

Johnnie McCrae Hawkins was taken into custody shortly before 7 a.m. when agents with the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force, along with detectives from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, raided a home on Ruff Drive, according to HCSO Major Anzell Harris.

Authorities said the operation followed an investigation into citizen complaints alleging that Hawkins was dealing illegal narcotics from the home.

Upon entering the residence, officers encountered Hawkins, who reportedly failed to follow verbal commands and physically resisted an agent before being detained.

A subsequent search of the property yielded suspected cocaine and a digital scale, though warrants did not specify an exact drug weight. Warrant details also noted that the residence was regularly frequented by known drug users.

Hawkins was arrested at the scene and charged with:

Felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance

Felony maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance

Possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance

Possession of drug paraphernalia

Resisting a public officer

Hawkins went before a magistrate and received a $7,500 secured bond. He is no longer listed in detention center records. He is scheduled to appear in district court on December 2.
