A Roanoke Rapids man was charged Thursday with driving while license revoked and DWI following a traffic stop.

Roanoke Rapids police Chief Bobby Martin said in a statement shortly before 2:15 p.m. Master Officer J. Horne was on foot patrol in the area of Sheetz when he noticed a person he had dealt with around two days earlier for drugs in the store.

The man, later identified as Brandon Weatherwax, 27, was reportedly unsteady. He was driving the same vehicle from the earlier encounter.

Horne continued monitoring the man. The man exited the store, got into the vehicle and left. Horne conducted a traffic stop to prevent him from endangering other drivers.

The officer noted Weatherwax reportedly was under the influence of an impairing substance.

With assistance from Master Officer J. Shelburne and completion of the investigation the man was arrested on suspicion of DWI.

He received a $500 bond on the DWI and driving while license revoked counts. He has a September 18 court date.
