Littleton police are investigating an armed robbery Saturday in which one of the suspects was shot and killed and the store owner sustained injuries which were not considered life-threatening.
The crime occurred shortly before 8 p.m. at Littleton Tobacco and Laundry located in the 100 block of Mosby Avenue.
Chief Phillip Trivette said two men wearing masks and all dark clothing entered the store. One of them brandished a weapon.
Trivette said shots were exchanged almost as soon as the men entered the store. The owner, whose name was not released confronted the suspects and several shots were fired.
The suspect died at the scene and the other person fled. The suspect’s name has not been released.
Trivette said it is too early in the investigation to say whether any charges will be filed against the store owner, who was released from medical care.
He said police do have some suspects and they are looking for the person who fled.
The chief said the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation. “The sheriff’s office was a huge asset last night. It would be extremely hard to do what we had to do without their help. They helped canvass and helped us stop suspects.”
Detective E. Johnson is investigating.
