The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following:

Sunday around 1:30 a.m. officers responded to the area of Carter Street in response to a shots fired call, according to Chief Bobby Martin.

Shots were fired into the air and there were no damages.

A man, later identified as Damien Robinson, 27, of the Roanoke Rapids area, was seen running from the area where the shots were fired.

Officers in the area located the man in a ditch on Church Street.

Unable to get away, Robinson followed the instructions of the officers.

A search of the ditch revealed a 9mm handgun.

A search of Robinson also revealed a broken crack pipe.

At the police department for processing, officers also found Robinson was in possession of crack.

Robinson was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of schedule II, and discharging a weapon in the city limits.

He received a $10,000 bond and July 23 court date.

Sergeant D. Hundley, Officer E. Ellington, Narcotics Agent C. Batchelor, and Officer J. DeSare investigated. 

Counterfeit bill

Investigative Sergeant Gorton Williams reported the police department is seeking assistance in locating a person who passed a counterfeit $100 bill at a local business.

The crime occurred on Saturday, March 29, around 6 p.m.

The person was seen leaving in what appeared to be a black Audi A4.
