A Scotland Neck man wanted in a Sunday morning shooting in Enfield surrendered to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday evening.
Enfield police Chief Chuck Hasty said Marquis Wayne Gary came to the sheriff’s office around 6 p.m.
He was jailed without opportunity for bond on charges of attempted murder, two counts of discharging a weapon into occupied property, four counts of injury to property and a count of going armed to the terror of the people. He has an October 28 court date.
The shooting at Enfield Pointe Apartments occurred around 7 a.m. after a call was received of a trespasser. While officers were arriving a call was received that shots were being fired. Two apartments and several vehicles were struck.
Officers learned Gary came to the apartment of the victim and when the victim would not answer the door he began damaging vehicles in the parking lot, Hasty said Monday. He then began shooting into the apartment and continued to shoot as he ran back towards his vehicle, striking another apartment.
Gary then fled in a burgundy SUV. No one was injured during the shooting.
Hasty said the crime was not a random shooting.
