To help provide equitable learning access and opportunities and keep local youth connected during the school year, UScellular has donated 330 wireless hotspots and two years of service to the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Central North Carolina valued at $379,830.

Hotspots have proven to be a vital tool for youth to access the internet, study and complete homework, and these will help Boys & Girls Clubs of North Central North Carolina members at the Roanoke Rapids club in Halifax County as well as clubs in Franklin, Granville, Vance and Warren counties boost their connectivity on-site, while also being loaned out to families to support reliable access at home.

"The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the academic, technology, and overall access disparities that our young people are faced with,” said Jacqueline Robinson, chief operating officer of the North Central North Carolina Boys & Girls Clubs. “North Central North Carolina is uniquely positioned to stand in the gap for our club members because of the support from partners like UScellular. With this donation, we can ensure that our club members have access to internet connectivity at no additional cost to their family, should they be required to transition back to virtual learning."

The hotspots provided to Boys & Girls Clubs of North Central North Carolina connect to UScellular’s network to provide high-speed connectivity for club members throughout Franklin, Granville, Halifax, Vance and Warren counties and each hotspot has the potential to support multiple club members throughout any given day.

“Boys & Girls Clubs of North Central North Carolina provide an essential service for youth at the Roanoke Rapids Club in Halifax County, and we want to help ensure their members have the connectivity they need to be successful in school,” said Jeremy Taylor, director of sales for UScellular. “Wireless technology is key to providing broadband service to families in both urban and rural areas, and we believe that every family deserves access to reliable internet access. At UScellular, we want to do our part to ensure youth in the Roanoke Rapids area have the resources they need to stay connected.”

UScellular has donated $2.6 million in hot spots and wireless service to 33 Boys & Girls Clubs in 2021.

Since 2009, the company has donated more than $20.8 million along with countless experiences and technology items to nonprofit organizations across the country.
