American Legion Shaw-May Post 38 today held its Veteran’s Day service at the post home in Roanoke Rapids.

Among the highlights of the event, in which post Commander David Sammons was the keynote speaker, was the presentation of the legion’s Junior ROTC General Military Excellence Award to Savannah Davis, a Navy JROTC cadet, who with her father, Jim, conducted the POW/MIA ceremony.

The event also included a reading of President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s proclamation setting aside November 11 as Veterans Day and a reading by Captain Mike Brittingham on the meaning of the day.
