A 22-year-old Roanoke Rapids man is in custody following a shooting in the 300 block of Monroe Street this afternoon.
Captain Jamie Hardy of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said Malik Lee faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, going armed to the terror of the people, and discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling.
He received a $50,000 secured bond and a Tuesday court date.
Hardy said this evening the 16-year-old male victim was talking with first responders. He was transferred to Vidant in Greenville for further treatment.
Officers responded to the 300 block of Monroe Street around 3 p.m. and discovered a juvenile who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Hardy said earlier today preliminary investigation shows the two exchanged words.
