The National Weather Service says a winter weather advisory remains in effect from 7 this evening to 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Warmer temperatures today caused snow to melt and create wet road conditions, the NWS said in its briefing this afternoon.
Because temperatures will fall into the low 20s tonight, this could allow refreezing and black ice to form into the late morning hours Wednesday.
Locations are along the Northern and Western Piedmont.
Hazardous travel conditions could be likely especially in shaded spots, bridges, overpasses of untreated roadways.
Meanwhile, the following delays have been announced for Wednesday:
Cornerstone Christian delayed until 10 a.m.
Gaston College Prep delayed two hours.
Halifax County Schools delayed two hours.
Haliwa-Saponi Tribal School delayed two hours.
KIPP Halifax delayed two hours.
Weldon City Schools delayed two hours.
Roanoke Rapids Public Works Director Larry Chalker said 43,150 gallons of brine were applied to city streets on four brine trucks.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said there were 25 reportable collisions during the storm. There were no serious injuries.
