The American Legion Shaw-May Post 38 held its third annual High School Oratorical Scholarship program in which Makayla McNair of Gaston and Dominic Taranto of Warrenton both competed.  

Makayla presented her prepared oration titled A Citizen’s Fight which earned her first place in the Constitutional contest.

Post 38 Commander Dave Sammons presented her with a gold medal, a certificate and miniature United States flag, a United States Constitution handbook and a check for $100.  Makayla advances to the Division 1 contest being held Saturday at 10 a.m. at 717 American Legion Road in Roanoke Rapids.
