While the number of positive cases of COVID-19 continues to go down, the percentage of positive cases is still high, Halifax County Health Director Bruce Robistow said.

The percentage of positive cases has gone down to 17.4 percent, compared to last week’s number of 30.2 percent. “To lift mask mandates and to get closer to normal we need to get below 5 percent and stay there,” he said. “In the last two weeks our death rate has gone high. Everyone needs to do their best to stay the course to continue this downward trend so we can have an enjoyable spring.”

Today the health department reported a total of 13,578 positive cases since March of 2020. It added 226 new positive cases in the report.

Six additional deaths related to the virus were also reported, bringing the total to 168.

Of the 13,578 total positives, 12,575 — 93.23 percent — have recovered while 741— 5.49 percent — have not recovered.

The event continues Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

As of Wednesday, 1,192 samples have been collected — 26.51 percent were positive and 73.49 percent were negative.

The health department reported Wednesday there have been 4,181 total positive cases of which 3,996 have recovered. There were 109 active cases. There have been 76 related deaths.
