Roanoke Valley law enforcement reported the following:

Chief Deputy Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported that on Thursday around 9:30 p.m., Deputy D. Bybee conducted a traffic enforcement stop on West Tenth Street near Bolling Road for a registration violation. 

The driver was identified as David Berwick, 42, of Roanoke Rapids.

Bybee learned Berwick’s driver’s license was suspended and discovered he was in possession of a concealed handgun.

Berwick was arrested and charged with driving while license revoked, possession of a concealed firearm, fictitious registration, no insurance, and no registration. 

He has a March 14 court date pending.

Deputies A. Holt and J. Barringer assisted.

Northampton County Sheriff’s Office

Captain Patrick Jacobs reported that on Monday Sergeant A. Leitner obtained warrants on 44-year-old Willie Suiter of Weldon. 

Warrants were obtained pursuant to an investigation that began on February 11 for a report of a residential breaking and entering and larceny in Margarettsville.

Leitner developed evidence to charge Suiter with one count of breaking and entering a residence and one count of larceny after breaking and entering. 

Suiter also has outstanding warrants for a previous breaking and entering investigated by Sergeant M. Deloatch. 

This case began on November 5 where it was reported that someone had broken into a residence in Seaboard and a vehicle in the yard. 

After investigation, Deloatch obtained warrants on Suiter on January 18 for one count of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, one count breaking and entering a residence, and one count larceny after breaking and entering. These warrants are also outstanding.

Jacobs also reported that on January 11 Lieutenant A. Roye obtained warrants on 36-year-old Al Tiran Ashford of Windsor for the breaking and entering of numerous vehicles which occurred outside the Rich Square area on Bryantown Road between January 1 and 2.

On January 3 the sheriff’s office responded to numerous reports of vehicle break-ins in which personal items, tools, bank cards, currency and firearms were taken.

Roye worked in conjunction with the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office and identified Ashford.

He was charged with five counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, four counts of misdemeanor larceny, one count of financial card theft, one count possession of a firearm by a felon, and one count of larceny of a firearm.

He received a $35,000 bond after he was served warrants on February 8 by Bertie County authorities. He has a February 24 district court appearance in Northampton County.

If there are any other crimes during this period of time that were not reported previously, the sheriff’s office encourages residents to call the numbers listed in the Suiter account so the case can be properly investigated.

Roanoke Rapids Police Department

Chief Bobby Martin reported on Tuesday shortly after 6:45 p.m. Officer H. Baker was on patrol in the area of Kelly Street when he noticed a driver, later identified as Joshua Bland, 21, run a stop sign at Long Circle.

Baker attempted to stop the vehicle. Bland failed to stop and attempted to flee.

Bland, of Roanoke Rapids, was stopped at Virginia Avenue and Highway 158 where other units arrived to assist.

Bland was charged with felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle and several counts of failure to stop for a stop sign.

He received a $2,000 bond and May 20 court date.

There were no injuries to people or damage to property.
