The area’s oldest community bank will soon have a new name.

Roanoke Rapids Savings Bank announced plans today to expand its operations into the Triangle and operate under Riverside Savings Bank.

“We may be growing and expanding but our roots will always be Roanoke Rapids and what better symbol of Roanoke Rapids and the Roanoke Valley than the mighty Roanoke River which is why Riverside is the perfect name to usher in our new era of this financial institution,” said Robbie Harvell, president/CEO.

The bank was founded in 1914 and first operated as Roanoke Rapids Building and Loan before changing its name to Roanoke Rapids Savings and Loan in the 1960s.

In 1992, the bank became known as Roanoke Rapids Savings Bank.

While the name is changing to Riverside Savings, the most important things are not, including the staff and the bank’s longstanding mission and vision.

“Our culture and our people are what truly matters and that is what has sustained us for over 100 years.  We hope our rebranding and expansion into the Triangle area of North Carolina will further strengthen our services to customers across North Carolina,” Harvell added.

The bank’s Roanoke Avenue branch will be solely devoted to mortgage loans in addition to the new office in Clayton in the Clayton Corners Shopping Center led by Clayton native Leslie Fowler.

“Leslie grew up in Clayton, graduated from Clayton High School, and knows the area well.  She’s going to be a great asset for Riverside Savings Bank, but an even better asset for the community,” said Harvell.

The bank will begin using its new name next Monday.

In the coming months, signs, banners, billboards, the bank’s website and debit cards will bear the new name and logo.

The bank’s routing numbers, account numbers, and card numbers will not change making it business as usual for existing customers.

“This is an exciting time in the history of our bank,” Harvell said. “ We look forward to continuing to serve the people of the Roanoke Valley and beyond as we have for over 100 years.”
