The Jo Story Center for Active Adults celebrated its 40th anniversary this evening with a scavenger hunt, food and fellowship.

Center Supervisor Thomas Goble and staff also put on display items which will go into a time capsule to be opened in 2058.

The items include ticket stubs from movies, a top 10 list of the popular songs, movies and books, photos of those currently participating in center activities, photos of past members and news clippings of events held there.

WoodmenLife Chapter 56 donated the bronze plaque commemorating the center's 40th anniversary.

The time capsule will be buried and the plaque placed at a later date.

Assistant Parks and Recreation Director Kelly Manning said the center has had five directors since it became a place for adults to meet in 1978.

They have been Story from 1978 to 1996; Libba Daniel from 1996 to 2000; Manning from 2000 to 2009; Rose Massey from 2010 to 2016 and Goble.
