The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate a burglary and assault Friday night in the Ringwood area which left the victim hospitalized.

Lieutenant Shane Guyant said this evening the attack could be random but investigators are still working on the case.

The sheriff’s office posted photos on its Facebook page of a male who had previously been seen on security camera footage at a residence next door to the one where the break-in and assault occurred after dark in the Highway 48 area near Ringwood. Investigators have not determined whether the man in the photos is a suspect. The person has been identified but the sheriff’s office is not immediately releasing his name.

Guyant said in a statement this evening deputies learned it appeared an unidentified male suspect broke into and entered the victim’s home. The victim was assaulted.

The injuries were such that the victim was transported to ECU Health Hospital in Greenville. As of this report the victim is in stable condition.
