A 25-year-old Enfield man surrendered to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office this morning and will face charges associated with a break-in and assault which occurred Friday night in the Ringwood area.

Curtez Rynell Whitaker has been charged with attempted first-degree forcible rape, breaking and entering with intent to terrorize and or injure, and assault inflicting serious bodily injury.

The victim in the case is an elderly female, Lieutenant Shane Guyant said in a statement this morning.

He received a $500,000 secured bond and July 28 court date.

Whitaker broke into the residence and assaulted the victim, requiring her to be hospitalized. She remains in stable condition.

After an extensive investigation throughout most of Saturday, Whitaker became a person of interest in the case. The community provided information and previous security camera images of him at a house next to the one for which he is charged with breaking into.

Whitaker had cut his hair before surrendering to the sheriff’s office.
